Who I am
“The more I read, the more I acquire, the more certain I am that I know nothing.”
― Voltaire

Maria G. Muñoz is one of the many students at Frank McCourt High school who has shown great improvement over the years adapting to the strict demands of high school. Her life has been influenced by her huge devotion to science and her way of life. As many other students with big dreams, Maria has been committed to fulfill hers since a child at the age of 7.

Coming from Mexican Origin Ms. Muñoz is a 18 year old girl born in December 11, 1996 in East side Manhattan, NY who started her educational path at Goddard-Riverside Head Start. Goddard isn't just an ordinary school to her but her first glimpse to the responsibilities that laid ahead of her and the many opportunities that were to come for her. Goddard introduced her to the American Museum of Natural History through a connection with the Science and Nature program in which Maria was then able to form part of at the Age of 7 when she was in 2nd grade at PS.163 (Elementary School). This was the beginning of a successful wonderful adventure.

Science and Nature only lasted 3 years ending towards the end of 5th grade both followed by a graduation ceremony from the Program and Elementary School. For Maria this was not the end of her science curiosity. She had applied to a competitive 7 year Lang Science program at the American Museum of Natural History and was Accepted. A program starting from 6th grade ending in 12th, Maria had her path safe and clear while she was able to engage in the many benefits of Lang such as a Free SHSAT and Kaplan course for High School students, After School programs at the AMNH needed for the 1year Science and mentoring Program (SRMP) and much more.

Maria attended Manhattan school For children and was later welcomed at Frank McCourt High school. She can be described as a dedicated, social, and an outgoing student that other than participating at the AMNH she played soccer with the WSSL and will soon be playing in the schools soccer team for her senior year. She has also been doing community service at the Holy Name of Jesus Christ Church every sunday for the past 3 years. She struggled throughout her life in High school with the new challenges for college preparation but this has not stopped her to try new things and methods in which to achieve her goals.

Maria will be attending LaGuardia Community College Fall of 2015 and will be majoring in Biology. Maria wants to pursue a career as a Neurosurgeon with a future PhD that she intends to one day have. Maria has two other siblings, José who's 16 years old frequently attending Life Science Middle School and her little brother Jesus who's 11 years old attending Computer School (Middle school). Wishing them the best, Maria wants to see them flourish.
